This heavily peated Ballechin expression hails from Highland traditionalists, Edradour distillery, in Pitlochry. The very first batch of this wonderful expression, the liquid has been aged for 18 years in only the finest bourbon barrels, and bottled at cask strength of 50.9% abv. It has a phenol content of 50 parts per million, minimum.
Expect a blend of sweet honey and iodine peat on the nose, with hints of dried fruit and nut notes. The palate opens with smoke and oak spices lightened by barely sugar and exotic fruit sweetness, which leads to rich pomegranate, warm caramel and a hint of leather on the finish.
