A limited release of 5,582 bottles, this lightly peated single malt has been matured in a combination of American and French oak, both first fill ex-bourbon casks and White Peak’s signature STR Casks (re-conditioned wine barriques that have been shaved, toasted and re-charred). Free from chill filtration and at natural colour, this stellar English expression was bottled at 46.8% abv by the award-winning White Peak Distillery in The Peak District.
Wire Works is named for the previous history of the building used to house the distillery, as their spot in the forests by the river Derwent is a world heritage site. The former Johnson & Nephew Wireworks was a pioneering factory during the industrial revolution, with Caduro being a global cable brand that was once made onsite by the company.
Expect notes of sweet pear, apples, bananas, orange peel, toffee popcorn, vanilla fudge and hints of nutmeg on the nose. The palate explodes with sweetness: chocolate orange, treacle tart, tea cake, and baklava with hints of tobacco, allspice and citrus. The finish follows, with notes of butterscotch, vanilla, and a wisp of smoke.
